SNC-Lavalin Partnership Wins a Geothermal EPC Contract in New Zealand

SNC-Lavalin, an engineering and construction company, declared that Contact Energy, a Wellington, New Zealand-based company, has presented the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contract to build the 166 MW geothermal project at Te Mihi to McConnell Dowell/SNC-Lavalin/Parsons Brinkerhoff partnership.

The award requires construction of two new geothermal power plants each generating 83 MW power in a location close to the existing Wairakei geothermal power station located northwest of Taupo, New Zealand. On completion of the project, around 45 MW power production capability of the present Wairakei geothermal station will be decommissioned. The combined power production capability of the Te Mihi and Wairakei geothermal stations will witness a clear increase of 114 MW. The additional power production is expected to meet the anticipated economic growth of the country in 2013.
