Dong Energy to Construct Borkum Riffgrund 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany

Dong Energy has declared that it will commence the construction of Borkum Riffgrund 1, an offshore wind farm over the North Sea that belongs to Germany.

The company has plans to begin the construction in the year 2013 and is looking forward to starting power production in 2014. The proposed wind farm will be located in the North Sea, around 55 km away from the north-east shore line of Germany.

The purported Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind farm will incorporate a maximum of 89 3.6 MW wind turbines manufactured by Siemens WindPower and will generate around 320 MW clean energy. Dong Energy will invest around EUR 1.25 billion in the wind project. The company will get a pre-fixed price for a period of around 13 years and will have the option to fix the then prevailing market price afterwards. The offshore wind farm will generate enough carbon free electricity to power around 330,000 households in  Germany.

The wind farm when completed will enable Dong energy to have a strong footing in the growing offshore wind market of Germany. The project will also offer Dong Energy a healthy and balanced offshore wind projects portfolio over all the geographical locations and government setups.
