SunEdison, a solar energy service providing company, and an auxiliary of MEMC Electronic Materials, has been granted permission to construct the 31 MW AC of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA).
The projects were awarded by OPA as a component of its Feed-in-tariff (FIT) program. SunEdison has already completed 28 MW ground-mounted and roof-top solar installations in Ontario.
SunEdison will bring in its global experience of over 390 solar installations in completing the five solar projects in Ontario and continue to monitor and maintain them. The solar projects will be located in various residential communities all over the province in places such as Mississauga, Ingleside, Whitby, Rideau Lakes and Drummond. The solar projects when completed will produce more than 47 million kWh of renewable energy during the first year of its functioning and generate above 873 million kWh of energy in a period of more than 20 years thus producing enough energy to power over 76,000 average homes in Canada for a period of one year.
SunEdison received orders to execute two 10 MW projects in Rideau Lakes, two 500 kW projects one each in Whitby and Mississauga and a 10 MW project in South Stormont.
