Babcock + Wilcox Vølund to Build Waste-to-Energy Plant in Finland

Babcock & Wilcox Vølund, the Denmark located auxiliary company of the Babcock & Wilcox, declared that it has contracted an accord worth $35 million with EkoKem OY, a Finland-based company, to supply important equipment for a waste-to-energy plant in Riihimäki, Finland. The 36 MW plant will generate heat as well as power.

Babcock & Wilcox will formulate the design of the plant, produce the required components for the plant and build the heat recovery boiler required for the waste-to-energy plant. The boiler will incorporate DynaGrate the patented water-cooled combustion grate of B&W, burners, selective non-catalytic reduction system, combustion air system and other required components. The technology required for the plant construction is in progress at the Esbjerg, Denmark office of B&W Vølund. The plant is scheduled to get completed before the commissioning date fixed in the fall of 2013.

B&W Vølund is a globally known supplier of expertise and equipment required for the conversion of domestic wastes and biomass into thermal power.
