Masdar, U.S. Department of Energy Partner to Test New Solar PV Coating Technology

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Masdar, the versatile clean energy program of Abu Dhabi, have declared their intention to work in partnership to assess the functioning of a specially coated solar PV module.

The modules are specifically manufactured to prevent the cementation and moisture setbacks confronted by the solar PV module producers all over the world and to avoid dry dust adherence.

The special coatings developed by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have been chosen for further trial after a sequence of technical and scientific information exchanges with Masdar, which includes soil sample collections and site visits to Abu Dhabi. Earlier in April 2010, both DOE and Masdar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for extending such cooperation. The two groups are continuing with important technical and scientific information exchanges in areas such as carbon capture, sequestration, clean energy sector national outreach, and buildings technology. They are also engaged in investment-oriented study with the Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E).

Instituted in 2009, the global partnership between the two countries brings both the governments together in encouraging policies and programs that improves the clean energy technology and assists in the changeover to a clean energy economy all over the world.
