BioSolar Announces Receipt of UL Material Certification for its BioBacksheet

BioSolar, a company that developed a technology to utilize bio-based materials formulated from plant sources to cut down the price of solar PV modules, has declared the receipt of the full Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) materials certification for its BioBacksheet product. The data details are available at the online certification directory of UL.

The BioBacksheets submitted by the company is currently undergoing  the relative thermal index (RTI) measurement phase under the UL certification process. RTI is the maximum temperature under which the material used need to remain unchanged by a long-run thermal induced element degradation process. This process is considered to be the last obstacle prior to the submission of commercial solar panels that deploy BioBacksheets for certification or recertification process under UL 1703 and releasing them for commercial sale. BioSolar anticipates receiving temporary RTI rating from UL around the 2nd quarter of 2011.

On receiving the UL certification the company will provide the certified samples to solar PV panel producers to enable them to use the samples to perform tests within the organization before submitting them for UL 1703 certification. On receipt of the UL 1703 certification the solar PV panels with Biobacksheets will be produced and made available for commercial sales and erection.
