Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has collaborated with the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for a major solar energy generation project.
As part of the joint venture, a solar power generation plant capable of producing 250 MW of electricity will be constructed. Both the companies have made a preliminary agreement and the final deal will be signed in another month.
The initial set up cost of the project is estimated to be around 2,000 crores, on a 50-50 proportion. Once the project starts functioning, the full capacity of the plant will be accomplished within 26 months.
The companies have reported that in the beginning, a wafer production plant capable of generating 250 MW of electricity every year will be established. From this, 100 MW of electricity will be utilized for developing power modules, which will be utilized for building power plants. Already BEL has the technology required for establishing the power production plant.
Once the facility starts functioning power can be generated in the next three months. The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) project has been started by the Union government with an intention of producing 20,000 MW of electricity by 2020. The authorities have mentioned that their goal would be supported by the BEL-BHEL joint venture.
The solar energy generation project is highly cost-effective since it does not include major expenses for procuring resources and the operational cost is also low. In addition, the power facility will be eco-friendly and contamination-free. It was reported that the electricity required for establishing and operating the plant in the preliminary phase can be reinstated within one-and-a-half years.
