ThyssenKrupp VDM, a company engaged in the manufacture of nickel alloy pipes, has declared that the “Hudson Ranch” geothermal project, currently under construction in southeastern California and designed to generate around 50 MW of clean energy, will utilize the pipes manufactured by the company.
In a geothermal plant, the pipes are utilized to pipe the water from the underground heat source to generate heat to run the power turbines to produce electric power through a generator and the cooled water is again pumped back to the heat reservoir through the pipe to conclude the process cycle. The pipes utilized for the purpose need to resist the formation of corrosion and endure the tough usage applications and the environments. To meet the demanding applications, ThyssenKrupp VDM supplies pipes made of nickel alloy quarto plates. It utilizes its years of experience in rolling technology and expertise that are vital in the manufacture of pipes with high level geometric requirements needed for the application.
The Werdohl-based company had installed the required machinery at its Siegen hot rolling mill to produce quarto plates of twelve meter length to manufacture pipes in the middle of last year. The installation has enabled the company to save a good amount of expenditure and effort in manufacturing and assembling of pipes utilizing the plates. The company has installed a longer spray pickling line at its Altena work to produce the plates continuously and supportively. The installation has allowed the company to run a higher level of pickling temperatures to improve the level of the process and to extend its range of products. The company is now in a position to process zirconium and titanium products in its production line.
