First Gen, a Lopez Group of company engaged in power generation and energy-linked businesses, has declared that it is engaged in the development of the Balintingon hydro reservoir plant.
The reservoir with an integrated power plant will supply water as well as electric power to Luzon, a main island in Philippines. The project is anticipated to start after the completion of a tri-partite accord between the project supporting company and the host governments.
The development process, in which First Gen is engaged, will cover the building and managing of a new hydro storage and a new hydroelectric power generation plant in the General Tinio municipal limits. The proposed plant will store and supply water for irrigation and generate power to meet the domestic power needs. The project when completed will supply water to an extra 15,000 hectares of agricultural land and will cater to the needs of over 9,000 households and fishing communities.
According to Federico R. Lopez Jr, Chairman and CEO of First Gen, the company has taken a keen interest in the project for its potential to bring in development to General Tinio and Nueva Ecija and to the total country. He added that the project will produce more power to meet the growing power requirement of Luzon Grid and provide solution to the seasonal bulk water supply requirement at the national level.
