Kyocera Solar, a supplier of eco-friendly solar energy solutions, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest, have declared the installation completion of a 14 MW solar energy system over the United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, located north of San Diego, California.
The solar system is installed over the site of Box Canyon landfill thus utilizing an unusable land for the production of clean energy.
The solar installation incorporates 6,300 KD235 solar modules manufactured at the production facility of Kyocera in San Diego, California. Synergy Electric, a San Diego-based solar integrating company, has completed the installation of 225 solar panels in association with AEE Solar. AECOM, an engineering company, designed the project, which includes performing of the required civil, geotechnical works and designing of the photovoltaic systems.
The ground mounted solar system is connected to the electric power grid at Camp Pendleton and is anticipated to generate around 2,400 MWh of clean energy every year, which is sufficient to power around 400 standard homes. The installation while increasing the solar power generation capability of Marine Corps over three fold will allow it to save around $336,000 every year on its power usage.
