Canadian Solar and SkyPower have declared the reaching of their third engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) accord for the construction of a 10.5 MW solar park to be located in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
SkyPower, a developer of utility level solar projects was recently contracted by Ontario Power Authority for 148.3 MW projects under the feed-in-tariff program.
Previously, Canadian Solar and SkyPower have entered into two EPC agreements to construct 18.5 MW solar power projects. The signed accords include a 10.5 MW solar park located in Napanee, home to First Light I and an 8.5 MW solar park situated at the International Airport Authority land in Thunder Bay. The third and current 10.5 MW project will be located over Fort William First Nation land in Thunder Bay.
The construction phase of all the three solar projects is anticipated to be completed by the third quarter of 2011. The three projects with a total capability to produce around 30 MW of solar power are anticipated to produce around 28 million kWh of clean energy in the first full year of operation. In the next 20 years, the projects will generate around 600 million kWh of clean power. The power generated from the facility is enough to power 50,000 homes. During the 20 year operation period of the projects, the power produced from them will counterbalance enough carbon dioxide emissions, which can be equated to removal of around 90,000 cars from the roads during the 20 year project period.
