Xtreme Power Announces Comissioning of Dynamic Power Resource System at Kahuku Wind project

Xtreme Power engineers, a developer and producer of large-scale digital power systems that are utilized in renewable energy and micro-grid applications, has announced the commissioning of its 15 MW Dynamic Power Resource (DPR) system at the 30 MW Kahuku Wind project owned by First Wind in an official dedication function held at Oahu, Hawaii.

Dynamic Power Resource

The DPR system provided by Xtreme Power makes the ±1 MW per minute output from the wind farm located at the Kahuku site on the North Shore of Oahu distortion free by quickly ingesting or releasing the power as required thus protecting the grid system of Hawaiian Electric Company’s (HECO) and other clients from the vagaries of wind generation output. Xtreme Power designed an exclusive solution to the site to overcome the delay in the project and to do away with the expensive upgrades in the transmission lines. The power system is also designed to double its storage options without increasing the present size to meet the increased storage requirements of First Wind.
