Chief James Marsden of Alderville First Nation and Franco Traverso, Silfab Ontario’s President and CEO, announces that both the organizations have signed an agreement for supporting the development of a 5 MW solar farm that comprises 20,410 solar modules.
Silfab’s SLA245M high-efficiency solar modules will be used in this 5 MW ground mounted photovoltaic system. These modules include 60 mono-crystalline silicon cells that have been manufactured in Ontario and are compliant with the Ontario Feed In Tariff program requirements.
The ground mounted system from Silfab features single axis trackers and fixed mounted racks. The solar photovoltaic farm is expected to be installed at the properties owned by Alderville.
With greater levels of expertise in the solar field, Silfab will be able to offer excellent services to the First Nation community in Southeastern Ontario. Chief James Marsden also adds that the Ontario Feed In Tariff program will provide additional opportunities in the economy for communities like Alderville.
The operation of the new 5 MW system is expected to start by November 2011. The system is estimated to produce nearly 5.7 million kWh annually, which can limit the release of more than 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the facility over its lifetime.
