SANYO North America has declared the completion of a solar installation to supply power to a campus parking structure constructed at the Long Beach City College.
The 400 kW solar facility will generate enough power to fully meet the power requirements of the security lights, fire protection systems, four emergency phones present on each level, and elevators. Any additional power available from the facility will be utilized by the campus buildings that are situated close by.
SANYO has installed 2,100 SANYO HIT Power 215N panels for the Long Beach City College. The solar modules deliver 19.3% cell efficiency and 17.1% module efficiency. The installed solar system will generate around 59,000 kWh of clean energy every month to meet the total power need of the parking structure and around 9% of the power requirement for the adjacent building. The power generated from the facility will cut down around 18.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the warranty period of the solar panels.
In order to create awareness and to spread the benefits achieved by the system, the college has erected a special information desk on the campus drive to display the amount of energy generated by the panels that are installed over the garage. Also, the monitor installed at the parking slot and powered by solar energy guides the students to the available parking lots at each level.
