3M has declared its plans to construct a solar PV materials and renewable energy products manufacturing facility in Hefei High-tech Park in alliance with the Hefei High-tech Industrial Development Area.
The Hefei High-tech Park, an industrial city, is located amongst the Huaihe and Yangtze rivers in Central China.
The proposed plant, known as 3M Materials Technologies (Hefei), will manufacture a range of solar PV products including 3M Scotchshield Film, a sophisticated product used on the backside of crystalline silicon solar PV modules. The proposed project will become the 9th production facility of 3M in China. The project will be constructed in two stages and the first phase of the construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2011.
3M happens to be the first foreign company to start its production facility outside the earmarked Special Economic Zones in China. It commenced its business in China in 1984 that comprises production, technical service, research and development facilities and business offices.
