Medtronic, a Minneapolis, MN, headquartered medical technology company, has lately earned the Green Globes Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings (CIEB) certification for its sustainable practices and upkeep of the Green Building Initiative (GBI).
The four storied building having a total space of around 509,483 square foot has around 1,200 daily occupants. It hosts a number of unique departments, which includes an atrium, laboratory, food service, a meeting hall and an educational center. The building deploys most of the best practices required by Green Globes in its daily usages such as water usage, emissions, energy intake, IEQ, use of resources and managing the environment.
According to Nate Pommier, Medtronic’s Corporate EHS Engineer, the company assessed the pros and cons of availing Green Globes certification in comparison with the LEED and chose the process of Green Globes. He further explained that though the criteria of Green Globes and LEED coincide partially or wholly in 85% of the process, the company has chosen Green Globes to achieve the results cost-effectively and in a less tedious manner.
The Green Building Initiative holds the exclusive license of Green Globes and provides assessment for both new and old commercial constructions. Green Globes certification is provided utilizing an interactive web-linked program thus allowing simple and cost-effective certification.
