GE, a company that provides technology and service solutions to the energy sector, has been chosen by PT Cikarang Listrindo, an independent power producer from Indonesia to sustain the power requirements of the fast developing industrial sector.
PT Cikarang Listrindo supplies around 700 MW of electricity to the national power grid and to a number of companies located in five industrial estates of Indonesia.
GE will supply a Frame 9E gas turbine and the required generator to add 114 MW of power to the existing power production capability at Cikarang’s power station, which is situated 45 kms away from Jakarta. The power station will utilize natural gas instead of liquid fuel to support the low carbon efforts of the country to cut down carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 26% by the year 2020.
As per GE calculations, the Frame 9E gas turbine will cut down NOx discharges by 35% and carbon dioxide emissions by 30% in comparison with a similar unit utilizing liquid fuel (distillate). The onsite power generation facility will assist PT Cikarang Listrindo to supply power from a reliable source, while achieving considerable long-term savings. Earlier, PT Cikarang Listrindo has purchased two 9Es and six Frame 6B units from GE for its projects and the present 9E will be the ninth to be supplied by GE. The new unit at Cikarang power production facility is anticipated to start operating from March 2012.
The Frame 9E gas turbine manufactured by GE is a 50-hertz turbine. The company has supplied over 600 such turbine units all over the world. The turbine has accrued over 23 million hours of working in industrial and utility services and in extreme climatic conditions.
