quietrevolution, a leading UK manufacturer of small wind turbines and the fourth fastest growing cleantech company in Europe, has gained Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certification for its innovative vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). To date only nine small wind turbines globally have been MCS certified and quietrevolution’s qr5 turbine is the first in the VAWT category.
In the UK, the MCS certifies microgeneration technologies used to produce electricity and heat from renewable sources. Its EN45011 certification scheme complies with the UK government’s criteria for eligibility to access financial incentives, including the UK’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT).
quietrevolution, which recently closed a deal with Hazel Capital for £5 million in project finance funding for the deployment of the qr5, has already sold out its planned 2011 annual manufacturing capacity at its plant based in Pembroke Dock, South Wales.
The innovative qr5 delivers low noise and low vibration output along with an active control system with integral remote monitoring. It is especially suited for generating power on-site and its compact rotor design, measuring only 5 high x3 wide metres, enables it to be easily installed either on buildings or as a stand-alone turbine.
Maeve Hurley, CEO of quietrevolution, said: “We are delighted to receive our MCS certification. To be one of a handful of companies to achieve this is an important endorsement of our qr5 turbine and our strategy of distributed generation.”
Jose Carlos Damas, Sales Director at quietrevolution, said: "This certification not only allows us to qualify for FIT but invigorates our effort to provide distributed energy to communities nationally.”
quietrevolution was recently named one of the fastest growing cleantech companies in Europe, winning fourth place in the Cleantech Connect League Table Awards 2010.
