Australian National University Joins Trina Solar in Solar Cell Project

Researchers from the Australian National University and Trina Solar, a solar cell manufacturer, have announced the launch of a joint project to augment the power production efficiency of photovoltaic solar cells at Canberra.

The ANU researchers will work with Trina Solar in introducing high-efficiency and cost-effective solar cells. The project was launched by Martin Ferguson AM MP, Minister for Resources and Energy.

Minister Ferguson stated that the project by way of augmenting the power production efficiency of solar cells proposes to bring down the price of photovoltaic modules, thus making the solar power production more cost-efficient than other forms of power generation. He added that the project is anticipated to draw in millions of dollars for the ANU as licensing fee while sustaining the growth of top-level research opportunities in the country. As a part of the project, ANU will function along with the University of NSW for the development of efficient solar cells through accurate arrangement of solar cell surfaces.

Ferguson mentioned that the research work will receive $3.3 million from the $150 million Australian Solar Institute, which forms a part of the $5 billion Clean Energy Initiative by the government.
