Community Energy Solar, a utility level solar projects developing company, declared that it has entered into a 15 year power purchase accord with Exelon Generation, a utility company, to supply the power generated from its 6 MW solar power facility being constructed in Lancaster County, PA. The accord also covers the sale of renewable energy credits generated from the project.
The solar project, which is expected to come over around 30 acres of land will be placed along Lancaster Pike, located south of the city of Lancaster, PA, and will incorporate around 25,000 solar panels. Community Energy Solar worked in close contact with the officials of East Drumore Township and farming community of Lancaster County in designing the solar project, to enable generation of renewable energy and restoration of agricultural land in the future. The project will utilize minimum level of concrete and allow select type of vegetation cover. The land will be decommissioned at the end of 25 or 30 years of the solar project’s life and restored for agriculture.
The proposed solar project will produce around 7.5 million kWh of clean electric power every year, which is sufficient to meet the power requirements of around 1,000 homes. The power generated from the facility will offset around 3,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, which can be equated to such discharges from around 676 passenger cars. During the six month period of the construction contract the project will generate around 75 job opportunities.
