A new green business survey, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of SCA, shows an increase in customer spending towards green products and services.
The online survey conducted from April 25 to 27, 2011 recorded feedbacks from 2,124 U.S. adults in the age group of 18 and older. The survey results were released on the world environment day.
Nearly 77% of U.S. adults have bought green products and services and 57% among them have mentioned that such products and services do improve the environment. Around 72% of the participants are aware of the ways and means to determine the green claim of a product and only 6% of adults continue to believe on personal reputation, news and awards about the companies to validate their claims. Nearly 21% felt that an autonomous third party certification for the product is a dependable method to know the veracity of the claims.
Nearly 26% of adults felt that that green product designation on store shelves or menus will be the best way for stores to display their commitment towards green products. Around 28% of the people expressed similar sentiments in the last survey conducted in 2010.
In choosing restaurants, nearly 53% of people indicated their choice towards eco-friendly restaurants and nearly 23% said that they would opt for the same choice despite longer waiting hours. Nearly 47% of people have shown their willingness to pay an extra fee at the eating place that has environmental focus and 56% of the participants said that distance is not a problem if they have to visit an eco-friendly eatery.
