Snyder's-Lance, a company that produces and markets snack foods, has declared the culmination of a ground-located solar farm in Pennsylvania.
The 3.5 MW solar farm comprising 15,092 solar panels is placed over 26 acres of land opposite to the manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters of the company in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
The new solar farm is anticipated to produce around 4,453,136 kWh of energy every year and will enable the company to save around 30% of its current spending on electricity at the facility. RMK Solar, who managed the installation had commenced the construction in September last year and completed the installation after a period of nine months. Snyder's-Lance, as part of its sustainability initiatives, had initiated the plans for the solar installation in 2009 and utilizes bio-degradable package for packing its products.
The solar farm during its life period of 25 years will offset nearly £230 million of carbon dioxide discharges, which can be equated to planting over 11 million new trees during the period or equivalent to more than 111 million miles not driven by a small sized car.
