PepsiCo Beverages Canada has declared the debut of an environment- friendly 7UP EcoGreen bottle in North America and Canada. The soft drink bottle is manufactured utilizing 100% reused PET plastic.
The introduction of recycled PET bottle will enable PepsiCo Beverages Canada to save around 6000000 lbs of virgin plastic in a period of one year. Based on its current 7UP manufacturing levels, the present introduction and cut down in usage of virgin plastic will bring down the carbon dioxide emissions from the factory by 30% and reduce its energy usage by 55%.
The development and introduction of the new PET bottle is a notable success for the company and an advancement for the beverage sector of Canada because the technology developed by the company mixes the present technology along with the sourced recycled PET plastic by deploying its developed processing methods to manufacture 100% recycled food grade PET bottle that conforms to the set regulatory requirements. The company has accomplished the challenge of developing a pet bottle with suitable materials that can withstand the carbonation pressure.
The company has currently invested around $1 million in improving the production facilities such as inspection systems and resin handling systems for the manufacture of PET bottles. The bottle will be manufactured in a number of PepsiCo production facilities all over Canada. Though the cost of manufacturing the 7UP EcoGreen bottle is more, the company has plans to up keep the price parity with other soft drink brands.
PepsiCo presently utilizes around 10% recycled PET in the manufacture of its soft drink bottles in the US and Canada and the company is aiming to achieve and use 100% recycled PET bottles for its products over a period of time.
