INVISTA, a producer of ANTRON and STAINMASTER carpet fibers and LYCRA fiber, has declared its aim to cut down its energy usage by 20% in 2020. The company has set this goal as a part of its pledge to conserve and use energy efficiently.
For the purpose of reaching its “20 by 2020” goal the company has plans to improve its present energy usage patterns and make additional investments in its production facilities to enable energy-saving during product manufacture. The company has plans to introduce energy efficiency by enforcing improvements in its framework of operations to achieve better production yield with reliability and quality and proceed with those capital projects that cut down waste and enable better energy conversion efficiency.
According to Michel Lebrun, Vice President of Operations Excellence at INVISTA, its site located in Gersthofen, Germany has brought down its energy usage by 11% from 2007 by improving the total energy awareness at every level of the organization and by introducing a number of functional and technical energy efficiency initiatives.
The company also brought down the energy usage at its North America located Performance Surfaces & Materials business facilities by around 13% in comparison with its 2007 levels. This has become possible due to the implementation of a waste removal and system up-gradation process to use onsite generated steam.
