Constellation Energy, performed ribbon cutting observance on 19th July for dedication of its Oakland located Criterion Wind Project.
The function was graced by government officials, community leaders and landowners. This happened to be the first wind power generation facility to be constructed and become operational in Maryland.
The Criterion Wind Project incorporates 28 wind turbines built over an area covering eight-mile along the length of the Backbone Mountain in Garrett County. The 70 MW wind generation facility will produce adequate power to meet the power requirements of around 23,000 households.
Criterion Wind commenced the commercial operations of its facility last December. The power generated from the facility is being sent to the power grids owned by Allegheny Energy, which provides power to Western Maryland. The wind farm has entered into a 20 year power purchase accord with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative to sell the generated power and accrued renewable energy credits. Old Dominion is a not for profit power supplier serving the interests of the power cooperatives located in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.
Constellation Energy holds a renewable energy portfolio of over 1,000 MW, which includes contracted or owned power generation from sources such as biomass, hydro, solar and wind. The company presents owns and manages around 95 MW solar installations either producing power or under various stages of construction to supply power to the commercial clients in the USA.
