Pattern Energy (Pattern) and Samsung Renewable Energy (Samsung) declared that they have contracted four individual power purchase agreements with Ontario Power Authority (OPA).
The signed accords will supply a total of 870 MW to OPA utilizing the power generated from the wind energy projects. The supplied power will be enough to meet the electricity requirements of around 300,000 homes annually.
Pattern and Samsung currently have a number of wind energy projects on going construction in Ontario. The projects under construction include Chatham-Kent, Ontario located 270 MW South Kent Wind, Haldimand County, Ontario placed 150 MW Grand Renewable Energy Park. Both the companies have entered into accords to acquire two more wind projects capable of generating 450 MW power. All the four projects are included in the 870 MW PPA signed by both the companies with OPA.
The present announcement is in sequence to a Green Energy Investment accord contracted by Samsung with the Government of Ontario. The accord will make it binding on Samsung and its associates to make an investment of $7 billion in Ontario to generate new production jobs and capability to produce 2,500 MW of clean power. Samsung and its partners are presently setting up four production facilities in Ontario, which are anticipated to generate around 1,440 manufacturing and allied job positions. The products produced from the facilities will be utilized in Ontario or exported to other places in North America.
The wind projects associated by Pattern and Samsung will utilize Wind turbine and other components manufactured in Ontario. The newly installed factories in Windsor and Tillsonburg will supply around 600 MW worth wind turbine components for the projects.
