SPI Solar, an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services provider and developer of vertically integrated solar PV products, declared that it has been contracted by KDC Solar to provide EPC services for the design and building of a 9.7 MW distributed solar energy facility (SEF) that uses fixed and ground mount solar panels.
The proposed facility will be owned by an auxiliary of KDC Solar, which in turn will supply the generated power for the onsite operational usage of an international pharmaceutical business’s auxiliary at their corporate headquarters located in New Jersey.
The current project awarded to SPI is in sequence to an earlier accord reached between KDC Solar, SPI and LDK Solar in June 2011. The accord recognized SPI as the chosen EPC services supplier to KDC and requires KDC Solar to provide 150 MW worth of SEF projects in a period of 36 months for the consideration of SPI. The signed accord also has set a goal for both the companies to try the possibilities for achieving 350 MW SEF projects in New York and New Jersey. LDK Solar on its part has agreed along with SPI to provide long term construction financing valued up to $750 million for the projects.
For the current and first project, the SEF will be constructed by SPI over a land owned by KDC Solar close to the New Jersey headquarters of the pharmaceutical company. For the installation SPI will utilize the high-performance modules supplied by LDK Solar. The power generated from the SEF will be purchased by the pharmaceutical company under a long term power purchase accord with KDC Solar at a comparatively lower price.
SPI in addition to providing the EPC services will also offer long term maintenance and operations services and to make certain of its SEF operations and maximum power production.
