REC Solar, a US commercial and home solar electric systems provider, has completed a 39 kW solar system installation at the Fresh & Easy Neighborhood market situated on Glendale Avenue in Phoenix. A celebration was organized to mark the completion of multiple solar installations on Fresh & Easy stores located in California and Arizona.
The installations had a total capacity of about 536 kW and the solar systems will generate 746,000 kWh of electricity yearly. This will be enough to meet nearly 20% of the energy needs of the stores and is equal to reducing emissions of greenhouse gas by 26 M lbs .
The solar systems have been roof mounted by REC Solar on 10 stores across the greater Phoenix metro area, which includes stores in Gilbert, Chandler, Avondale, and Mesa, Arizona. The solar systems incorporate REC Peak Energy Series Panels produced by the solar panel giant, REC Group.
A display in all the 10 stores shows the real-time solar energy generation at the store while educating the customers of the store about the mode of operation of solar systems. The energy utilization in Fresh & Easy stores is claimed to be 30% less compared to that of a typical supermarket. The stores have also taken initiatives to bring down emissions and are all certified by the GreenChill program of the EPA.
Angiolo Laviziano, CEO of REC Solar said that its partnership with Fresh & Easy is a key step towards the US solar market expansion and went on to add that the recent solar installations show that at a number of small rooftops in individual stores can together give significant savings in operational costs.
