Owens Corning, a global leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, and Solexel, a manufacturer of solar PV modules, have received $13 million in funding to develop the next generation solar energy technologies.
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the funding, as part of its SunShot Initiative, for projects that will create breakthrough building-integrated solar technologies. The SunShot Initiative is a collaborative program that drives solar energy systems to be more sustainable and affordable for residential consumers.
There is a great chance to combine the technology of Solexel into solar roofing solutions that are aesthetically beautiful, affordable and easy to set up with the probability of the DOE funding. Michael Wingert, Solexel’s president and CEO, said that the mission of Solexel is to be a modernist to develop distinguished solar solutions. He also added that the company’s high-performance technology is suitable for building-integrated solar products.
