Solar PV Management, a British trade magazine, has honored Oerlikon Solar with its annual Solar Industry Award in the ‘Thin Film Innovations’ category continuously for the third year in a row.
The judges have chosen ThinFabTM, a new production line of the company for the "Thin Film Innovation Award". The awards were presented at the Hamburg held 26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC).
ThinFabTM is a production system from Oerlikon Solar that enables mass manufacture of environment -friendly thin film silicon solar modules. Since the introduction of ThinFabTM into the market, the company has received order from an Asian client for a 120 MW micromorph production line and a number of upgrade requests from the existing clients.
Some of the notable advantages offered by ThinFabTM production line include reduction in total ownership costs for solar modules to the lowest level of EUR 0.50/Wp, increased energy efficiency to cut down the energy payback period, and maintenance of power production efficiency even under cloudy and adverse weather conditions. The thin film solar modules are eco-friendly and do not have toxic improvers such as cadmium and provide an efficiency of 11.9%. The modules can be utilized in open-space as well as over all roof types and the transparent type of modules integrate with the constructions efficiently.
Helmut Frankenberger, Oerlikon Solar’s CEO stated that the award affirms the inventive power production efficiency of thin film silicon solar technology of the company and the wide acceptance for the product.
