TU Delft has declared its participation in a new European Wind Energy Master (EWEM) degree program from the ensuing academic year (2012-2013) for the students.
The new degree initiative was recently chosen by the EU Erasmus Mundus program for funding and the education will be imparted in coordination with three more European Universities.
The European Wind Energy Master consortium constitutes a total of four universities, which are known for their research and imparting of education in wind energy field. In addition to TU Delft, the other universities that are engaged in the program include the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany) and the Technical University of Denmark.
The formed syndicate anticipates to enrolling around 120 to 150 students every year and provides them with the needed education in the growing wind energy sector. The syllabus for the educational program has been formulated in association with around forty people drawn out from various segments related to wind energy generation such as developers of off shore and on shore wind power generation forms, wind turbine manufacturers and wind energy associations.
The new EWEM degree program comprises four specialization subjects such as offshore engineering, electric power systems, rotor designs and wind physics. The students will be taught a common program during their first semester. The teaching method devised for the program will be more of project oriented multidisciplinary type and will impart the students, the learning beyond their specialized subjects to make them understand the need to have design choices intone with the community requirement.
