Walgreens declared that it has completed its 100th rooftop solar installation over its Mason, Ohio, premises thus continuing its commitment to eco-friendly power generation.
The company commenced its allegiance solar power with the first installation in 2007 and is now looking forward to elaborate its plans to have solar installations at all its distribution and stores locations in Ohio, Oregon, California, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The company is looking forward to complete over 130 solar roof top installations before the end of the current year leading the table among the retail companies with solar installation. The rooftop installations nearly offset 15 to 20 % of its energy usage.
In 20 counties of the Ohio state, the company has completed over 53 installations thus becoming the single largest solar power user in the state. The company has engaged the services of SoCore Energy to own, manage and supervise the rooftop installations. Both the companies have joined up with First Energy Solutions to administer the renewable energy certificate procedures.
Walgreens, has been showing its dedication to cut-down its fossil fuel energy usage and improving its renewable energy options. It became the first ever drugstore chain of company to erect geothermal energy facility at one of its store locations in Oak Park, Ill, last November. Its drugstore located at Mira Mesa, California, earned the name as the first LEED gold certified store in the USA. The energy management system in use at the company monitors the use of waste management, heating and cooling, water and electric power at over 1,100 store locations of the company.
