TimberRock Energy Solutions declared that it has put into service the first ever solar EV charging station of Maryland at Allison Transmission Plant of General Motors in White Marsh, Maryland.
TimberRock has completed the installation of the project jointly with its long time associate Standard Solar, a solar installation, finance, integration, construction and full service development providing company.
TimberRock and Standard Solar have completed the design for the 10 kW system with four level 1 (120 V) normal and four level 2 (240 V) fast charging facilities in consultation with General Motors. The completed EV charging facility provides covered parking facility for the EV drivers under the installed solar canopy.
The completed EV charging facility is expected to generate around 12,500 kWh of energy every year, which is adequate to fully charge a fleet of six Chevy Volts. The EV charging facility will generate enough power to offset around 12 t of carbon dioxide discharges into the atmosphere every year. The EV charging facility is also connected directly to the building to facilitate the use of generated solar power when the EV charging facility is not used.
According to Brent Hollenbeck, CEO of TimberRock, the construction of solar -based EV charging facility will have a positive impact and will bring down the reliance on imported fossil fuel, a source of pollution generation. He added that the benefits of EV usage will be reduced if it receives power through the grid supplied electricity, which often supplies coal powered power.
