The new headquarters of CodeGreen Solutions, a pioneer in the green building market, has secured a LEED-CI Platinum certification, the highest certification issued by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The office building, situated at 1333 Broadway in New York City, is the latest addition to CodeGreen’s lengthy list of green projects, including the Origins Flagship store, the Democracy Now! Studios and the corporate offices of most of the Fortune 500 firms.
CodeGreen has employed its own team of energy managers, commissioning engineers and LEED APs for the development of the new headquarters. Smart aspects in the building such as daylight and occupancy sensors, plug-in task lighting and T5 lighting enabled reduction in energy consumption of 56%, which is beyond the standards of ASHRAE.
Moreover, overhead lighting was decreased, and CodeGreen employees can now experience a more relaxed working setup, where they are able to maneuver their own lighting and can see the sights overlooking Midtown Manhattan.
CodeGreen bought 72% of new furnishings locally and assured the salvage of 61% of its office furnishings. The company used 100% FSC-certified wood across the office and recycled 95% of the waste generated from the project. In order to decrease water usage, the company used low flush diverters for the water closets and 5 gpm aerators for the existing faucets, which jointly reduced water consumption by 20% compared to the standard fittings. In addition, it has implemented composting in the office to further decrease organic waste.
