KONE was praised for its advancements made to the revelation of climate change information by CDP, which manages over 71 trillion assets and comprises 551 institution investors in its fold.
The escalators and elevators manufactured by the company play an important role to forestall the climatic changes by cutting down the energy usage in existing as well as new constructions. The company by supplying eco-friendly and energy efficient escalator and elevator and automatic door solutions for net-zero energy and LEED certified buildings counters the climate changes and contributes to energy conserving. The upgrading of the elevators in the existing constructions saves around 70% on energy usage while escalators save around 40%.
The carbon footprint analysis of KONE has revealed that around 10% emissions generated by the company are due to its operations. In November 2010, the company has achieved its target of reducing energy intake by its new breed of volume elevators by 50% and became the first elevator company to earn the top A level energy rating of VDI for its elevators.
The company has brought down its operational carbon footprint by improving the eco-efficiency of its car fleet, by cutting down its energy intake and by re-equipping its logistics and packaging exercises and by augmenting the usage of virtual meeting tools. The company has set an objective to cut down the carbon footprint of its operations by 3% every year from 2013 and it also aims to improve the energy efficiency of its next generation escalators and elevators.
