Sonoco Recycling, a fully owned auxiliary of Sonoco and one among the packaging recycling companies in North America, declared that it has taken over a large material recovery facility (MRF) at Greenville in South Carolina owned by American Recycling.
The acquisition of the new facility is anticipated to considerably increase the capabilities of Sonoco Recycling to meet the growing demand of such facilities in the Upstate. The current acquisition is the fifth MRF facility for Sonoco and the company already has its presence in Spartanburg, Columbia and Charleston.
Sonoco Recycling owns five material recovery facilities (MRF) to process curbside-collected commercial and residential materials, providing its services to over 125 communities. The company collects over 3 million tons of plastics, metals, assorted grades of paper and old corrugated containers every year and also offers safe, dependable and novel recycling solutions to its commercial and residential clients. The reclamation facilities of the company save around 843,000 cu yd space that otherwise would have been used as landfill, which can be equated to land space that meets the yearly waste disposal requirements of more than one million South Carolinians. The company is also associated with a number of green initiatives such as Southeastern Recycling Coalition, Carolina Recycling Association and partakes as a green partner in the program of S.C. Green Steps School.
The American Recycling of South Carolina established in 2003 provides a facility for processing recyclable materials such as papers and plastics in the Southeast. It provides services to a range of recovered material generators including that of paper converters and merchants, commercial shredding companies, manufacturing and distribution facilities, municipalities, office complexes, and commercial printers with easy-to-use tailor-made programs thus increasing the efficiency of the clients, reducing waste and improving their environmental stewardship.
