Hawaii BioEnergy and Boeing to Partner for Identifying Renewable Energy Sources

Boeing and Hawaii BioEnergy have agreed to collaborate in identifying sources of renewable energy to create fuel for aviation. The announcement was made at the Asia Pacific Economic Conference CEO Summit.

According to the agreement, the companies will focus on growing crops like eucalyptus and sorghum, which can be locally grown in order to convert them to aviation fuel. The companies will also look at various latest technologies that can support production of aviation fuel. The partnership will consider only plant sources that do not alter the food chain or cause unnecessary usage of land and those that do not deplete crop or fresh water resources. The Memorandum of Understanding between the two companies laid out the methods by which they will identify biofuel sources and supporting technologies that will be provided for this purpose.

According to the Vice President of Environment and Aviation Policy of Boeing, Billy Glover, the involvement of Hawaii will help the aviation industry to reduce carbon emissions and at the same time to enhance energy resources. The efforts of Hawaii can also help in boosting the local economy. Boeing is a prominent aviation company focussing on creating a diverse portfolio of biofuel sources for aviation fuel.
