Photo Voltaic Power Plant to Power Naval Air Weapons Station at China Lake, California

SunPower, a NASDAQ listed company manufacturing high efficiency photovoltaic power systems, has planned to set up its 13.78 megawatt power system at the Naval Air Weapons Station located in china Lake California.

This new photo voltaic power system aims to cater to the 30 % of this Station’s annual power requirements. As per the estimates, this new solar powered system is expected to save $13 million in the next 20 years. The navy as per its power purchase agreement (PPA), the federal government will invest in setting up this first ever government funded solar power station under the 10USC 2922a authorization to source energy or fuel for such military installations.

As per the agreement, SunPower will be instrumental in designing, implementing, operating and maintaining this solar power system, which covers a 25 year warranty for its solar panels. One of Metlife’s affiliates will own the plant and will be leased to the SunPower affiliate to manage the plant.

The SunPower Oasis power plant will be the system that is to be installed under the PPA over a 20 year term. This system incorporates SunPower T0 tracker combined with SunPower E19/425 photo voltaic panels with system cabling deployable utility scale photo voltaic systems with the optimal use of land available.
