AlphaGraphics, Inc. announced today that the company will be the first US print and visual communications franchisor to obtain a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Multi-Site Chain of Custody (COC) Certificate. A key indicator of a company's commitment to environmental responsibility, FSC certification requires a rigorous review of procurement processes to ensure that paper and wood products are purchased from sustainable sources. The certificate, which will be effective May 1, is the company's first step toward obtaining FSC certification for all of its 229 US locations. "As visual communication providers, our business centers consume a large volume of paper products, and we are very sensitive to the need to use sustainable sources that support responsible forest management," said AlphaGraphics CEO Kevin K. Cushing. "FSC Certification demonstrates our commitment to environmentally responsible practices, and it allows our franchisees to demonstrate their commitment as well."
FSC is a worldwide certification that manages the supply chain of timber used for making paper, construction materials, furniture and other wood products. FSC's certification model allows products that flow from certified forests to enter into a certified marketplace. All FSC labeled products are traceable to a certified source. When paper is labeled with the FSC logo, it certifies that the paper comes from sources that employ approved harvesting and processing methods.
AlphaGraphics is committed to environmental responsibility and sustainability throughout its operations. In addition to FSC certification, AlphaGraphics worldwide, in association with its parent company, Pindar, partners with Earthwatch, an international nonprofit organization that brings science to life for people concerned about the Earth's future.
