Finavera has signed an MOU with McLeod Lake Indian Band to develop Finavera’s 77 MW Wildmare and 47 MW Tumbler Ridge projects in the Peace Region of B.C.
This partnership will be advantageous for both the companies. Under the terms of the MOU, the wind energy projects will be built and operated and they will together generate 124 MW of green and renewable power.
Derek Orr, Chief of McLeod Lake Indian Band, stated that the company is proud to support Finavera’s wind energy projects in British Columbia. The company anticipates a successful completion of the projects and also hopes that the business relationship with Finavera will be a long-term one and be beneficial for both the parties.
Through this MOU, McLeod Lake has approved Finavera’s wind energy projects in the BC. McLeod Lake in turn will benefit through business opportunities, training, financial participation and employment in the projects. Finavera is committed to providing green electricity that will reduce impacts on the environment.
The companies are also discussing the possibility of an MOU for Finavera’s Bullmoose and Meikle wind projects. Finavera hopes to complete this agreement, which is the second of its five similar agreements with McLeod Lake Indian Band. . An MOU with Halfway River First Nation was signed in 2010 and discussions are in progress with three more First Nations, viz., Doig River First Nation, Saulteau First Nations and West Moberly First Nation.
