Elite Energy Systems, an alternative energy company based in Nevada, has installed a biogas CHP system at the cattle feedlot of Gardiner Farms in Kirkton, Ontario. The farm is producing thermal energy and electricity independently.
The Gardiner Farms' CHP system is provided power through two low-BTU biogas-powered engines from Caterpillar. The engines are naturally aspirated.
The Gardiner Farms uses organic material, former waste streams, and manure for generating biogas for the Elite EnviroGen Energy Modules. An anaerobic digestion process is used for generating the biogas.
The Gardiner Farms' CHP system helps the Province of Ontario in meeting the goals that it has set for renewable energy. The electricity and the heat required for the residences on the property and the farm operations are generated from the former waste stream. Excess electricity that is not required by the farm will be sold back, generating additional income for the farm.
The Operations Manager at Gardiner Farms, Joel Gardiner stated that the company is happy to partner with Elite for the biogas CHP system project. The production of energy on the farm and the anaerobic digestion are significant additions to the current farm operations. Gardiner added that the Elite EnviroGen Energy Modules, CHP units will play an essential part in supplying renewable energy for the Province of Ontario and the Gardiner Farms.
