A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by Ballard Power Systems, a provider of clean energy fuel cell products for a range of applications, and WEG Industries, based in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
The partnership enables the development of fuel cell products for clean energy application. Under the terms of the contract, the companies will also identify and assess market opportunities for fuel cell products and services for applications associated to WEG's technologies and businesses in sectors such as mining, rail and bus.
WEG Industries focuses on expanding into new clean energy businesses. WEG Automation’s Managing Director, Umberto Gabbato stated that the collaboration with Ballard helps to meet their goal to ensure minimal impact on the environment. He added that working with Ballard will give a possibility to develop fuel cells for applications varying from public transit to mining and several other critical power applications.
The President and CEO of Ballard, John Sheridan commented that the MOU will help promote the use of fuel cell product in the rapid growing Brazilian market. Both companies will jointly assess the availability of a large number of commercial applications.
WEG Industries is active in the fields of global automation technology, power and electric engineering. The company manufactures drives, transformers, generators, electric motors and coatings in nine countries. It has representatives, branches and facilities in 100 countries.
