Solar Power Network, a Canadian-owned private company specializing in producing clean energy using proven solar technologies, has launched a 230 kW rooftop solar system at Plaza Ontario in Windsor, Canada.
The 23,000 sq ft of rooftop solar includes 910 solar panels. The project supports Ontario's aims to eliminate its reliance on coal-fired energy and the related emissions. The SPN solar program will generate 264 MWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to removing 132 metric tonnes of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Solar Power Network also monitors the solar panels to guarantee peak efficiency at all times. In order to reduce energy loss during transmission, Ontario’s Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) program allows energy collected to be spread to the local grid and this power is used by the building as well as by businesses and residents nearest to the location.
The President and CEO of Solar Power Network, Peter Goodman stated that their unique approach employs advanced solar technology and provides a novel lower panel angle design to customers. This eliminates structural impact to customers’ rooftop and also increases the proceeds from their leased rooftop space.
Paulo Fontana, Plaza Ontario’s Co-owner and GM, remarked that they are excited to be a part of the SPN rooftop solar program, contributing clean, efficient and sustainable energy to electrical grid in Ontario. Fontana also added that the program converts the unused roof space into an energy generation source with low risks and high returns. It requires no startup costs and does not produce any structural impact to the company’s rooftop.
