Solar Frontier, a provider of solar energy solutions, has delivered CIS thin-film solar modules to the newly activated 10 MW Mt. Komekura Solar Power Plant project in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and Yamanashi Prefecture jointly operate the plant, which commenced operation on January 27, 2012. Mt. Komekura Solar Power Plant has been established as part of Global Warming Countermeasures Plan of Yamanashi Prefecture for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The 10 MW solar facility is anticipated to produce approximately 12 million kWh of electricity per year, which will minimize annual carbon dioxide emissions by about 5,100 tons. The amount of energy produced is equivalent to electricity usage by around 3,400 households. Mt. Komekura Solar Power Plant is one of Japan’s largest solar power facilities.
The CIS thin-film solar modules from Solar Frontier have higher conversion efficiency than other modules. They have ability to generate very high overall energy output (kWh) at all weather conditions. The superior performance of the company’s CIS thin-film modules has been proved at Solar Frontier’s large solar power production plants in Miyazaki and at Yukigunigata Megasolar power facility in Niigata Prefecture. As the modules are proven to offer outstanding performance, they are used in many utility-scale solar power projects in Japan and worldwide.
