CPFL Renováveis, an energy generation company, has signed an agreement with Fundo de Investimentos em Participações Brasil Energia (FIP Brasil Energia), Fundo de Investimento em Participações Progresso (FIP Progresso), Servtec Investimentos em Participações (Servtec), and other shareholders to acquire BVP, a Brazilian wind project developer.
BVP, through its Bons Ventos Geradora de Energia (Bons Ventos) subsidiary, owns four wind power plants that are currently operating in Ceará, Brazil.
As per the agreement, CPFL will attain 100% ownership on the Ceará-based four wind farms: 16.8 MW Taíba Albatroz, 58.8 MW Canoa Quebrada, 50.4 MW Bons Ventos and 31.5 MW Enacel. The overall installed capacity of the farms is 157.5 MW and the average capacity factor is approximately 40%. Bons Ventos has signed 20-year energy selling agreements with Eletrobrás, an electric power generation and transmission company. All the farms are installed with Suzlon’s wind turbines.
The acquisition will expand CPFL’s power generation portfolio to 809.5 MW: 135 MW of power are from biomass thermoelectric plants, 307 MW are from small hydroelectric power facilities, and 367.5 MW of energy are from wind farms. In addition, an 885 MW power project is under construction. Thus, the company owns a total of 1,694.5 MW of renewable energy projects.
Miguel Saad, CPFL Renováveis’ CEO, stated that the purchase signifies an important step in the company’s growth strategy and it positions CPFL as one of Brazil’s key players of wind assets.
