The McAllen Independent School District (McAllen ISD), headquartered in McAllen, Texas, and Ameresco, a provider of energy-efficient, infrastructure upgrades and renewable energy solutions for facilities across North America, has entered into an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC).
As per the contract, Ameresco will implement energy efficiency measures at 39 facilities located across the district. These measures are anticipated to help the Texas school district to save over $1.2 million per year.
Through the partnership with Ameresco, McAllen ISD is currently having the potential to make significant improvements to its energy infrastructure and enhance energy efficiency without any initial capital investment. The contract stretches McAllen ISD’s diminished budget dollars into over $16 million of infrastructure upgrades. Ameresco manages the upfront costs of the project and the client repays the investment with the energy savings.
Ameresco has used a wide range of data from sources like facility interviews and site surveys and found out 17 different measures to improve energy efficiency in McAllen ISD. The energy efficiency measures include replacement of five chillers, alteration of 118 heating and air conditioning units, renovation of failing roofs, fixation of power management scripts for 10,000 PCs, installation of 4,494 automatic lighting controls and replacement of 1,003 sink aerators.
In addition to energy savings, the ESPC project offers considerable environmental benefits. It prevents the release of 6,498 t of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to delivering power to 702 homes.
