According to the recent data, the solar PV market in Belgium has recorded successful growth in 2011 compared to previous years. The total installed capacity of the Belgian PV market accounted for 1,669 MW by the end of 2011.
The Flanders region has mostly contributed to this growth with 86%, Wallonia accounts to less than 14% and Brussels to below 0.2%.
In 2011, the Flanders has made a large number of PV module installations, which accounts to 1,634 MW. Volumes recorded by VREG reveal that the Flanders has registered 12 TWh of solar energy generation in 2011, which is significantly high when compared to 595 GWh in 2010. In addition, the data revealed a backlog volume increase of 170 MW for 2010. Hence, it is anticipated that more capacity will be added to the 2011 volume.
CWaPE has reported strong growth in the Wallonia region by increasing from 833 MW in 2010 to 1,816 MW in 2011. In addition, 90 new installations with 65 MW capacity has been recorded at the end of January 2012. Two new installations have been carried out in Strépy-Bracquegnies and Ghlin with a maximum capacity of 250 kW. According to the data published in September 2011, Brussels showed a small growth of just 819 kW and an accumulated capacity of 67 MW, when compared to an accumulated volume of 59 MW in 2010.
The current status of the solar PV market in Belgium will be discussed by the industry experts at The Solar Future: Belgium '12 event, which is scheduled on March 28, 2012 in Brussels.
