The new Code of Practice for Electrical Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation has been introduced by a committee comprising representatives from government as well as from electrical, energy and automotive industries.
This is a reliable, practical installation guide, which describes the requirements for electrical vehicle (EV) charging points.
The first ever guide for the EV industry includes exclusive guidance on electrical requirements, risk assessment and checklists for the perfect installation of charging points in several areas, including domestic environments, car parks, factories and offices. The document has been prepared based on various charging equipment that are currently available in the UK market. In addition, it takes into account the requirements of all electric and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles, including cars, vans, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and motorbikes. The Code of Practice is ideal for all manufacturers and installers of EV charging points.
IET Standards, a professional organization sharing and advancing knowledge to promote science, engineering and technology across the world, has published the Code of Practice.
Carolyn White, Director of IET Standards, stated that the new guide for EV charging equipment installation will be valuable to the industry, as the demand for electric and hybrid vehicles is anticipated to grow faster from 2012. It will help ensure safe and proper installation of all charging points, added White.
The Code of Practice complies with the IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008(2011) and the recently launched European and global standards.
