ABB has created a breakthrough in electric vehicle (EV) charging with the launch of a new, cost-effective direct-current (DC) charger, Terra Smart Connect (SC). The product has been mainly developed for quick and easy charging in office and commercial areas.
Terra SC - EV connected to charger
The Terra SC product completely charges a vehicle in 30 to 120 minutes. The system is also suitable for individuals who like to keep driving but do not require a full charge. The DC charger can charge the battery of existing electric cars in the range of 30% to 80% within half an hour. The charger will be available in Europe in the 2Q 2012.
The Terra SC charging system features an 8” touch-screen user interface, outdoor stainless steel housing and other smart connectivity features. Other connectivity features include smart software upgradeability, management and servicing, and remote assistance. The optional features of the Terra SC include a web-based statistics module, a billing interface for parking operators and RFiD and PIN code authorization.
The system’s thin design and simple wall- and floor-mount connections enable easier and quicker installation, thus creating maximum space efficiency. Another important benefit of the system is that it utilizes 3-phase 32A input and prevents the need for an expensive grid connection.
ABB’s new Terra SC charging system is ideal for shopping malls, roadside meeting places, EV infrastructure service providers, car dealerships, rental companies, parking operators, fleet operators and company car parks.
