GE Energy, a company that serves the energy sector, has announced at the EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) 2012 annual event in Copenhagen that it has exceeded 2 GW of capacity by installing its 2.5 wind turbines across the world. This capacity is sufficient to provide clean electricity for nearly 1.4 million houses in Europe.
Over 2000 wind turbines having 100+m rotors will be installed in 15 countries across the world within this year. About 1000 of these wind turbines will be multi-megawatt 2.5 series systems.
Two of the largest wind projects including 845 MW Shepherds Flat wind farm in Oregon and 600 MW Fantanele wind farm in CEZ Romania have selected GE’s 2.5 technology.
The 2.5 product line is an evolutionary product that comprises 2.3-94, 2.5-88, 2.5-100, 2.75-100 and 2.75-103 that are reliable, highly efficient and suitable for a wide range of wind scenarios. The 2.5 product line is manufactured based on the performance of the company’s 1.5 wind turbines. Over 16,500 units of 1.5 wind turbines have been installed throughout the world.
GE Energy operates in over 100 countries. The company focuses on oil, wind, solar, natural gas, biogas, coal and nuclear energy sectors and on modernization of power grid, energy management and water processing. Further, it provides combined solutions for marine, petrochemical, food & beverage, metals and mining industrial sectors.
